The challenge brief

Lift. Balance. Deliver.

Teams work with limited materials to create a lifting mechanism that reaches a target, handles a load and places it accurately.

Agree the mission rules and success criteria during the briefing, then let your team choose its approach.

What shapes the challenge
  • Reach, stability and load capacity must all work together
  • Materials are constrained
  • The load must be controlled
  • The final task includes accurate placement
Inside the experience

Your mission, step by step.

A practical progression from the first decision to the final demonstration.

01

Analyse the lifting requirement

Agree the load, reach and placement target for the crane.

02

Select a mechanism

Compare possible lifting mechanisms against stability and control.

03

Build the crane

Build the frame and lifting system with the available material kit.

04

Test load and reach

Try the agreed test load and observe movement at the base and lifting arm.

05

Complete the delivery task

Lift and place the object accurately, then explain the mechanical trade-offs.

Purpose behind the experience

Build capability through participation.

Trade-off thinking

Balance reach, stability and control in the lifting design.

Coordination

Coordinate building, testing and load handling.

Mechanical reasoning

Explain how the chosen mechanism moves the load.

Execution

Complete the placement task using the tested approach.

Bring the learning back to work.

The challenge demonstrates that solving one dimension of a problem—such as strength—can create another problem, such as weight or stability.

Make it work for your team

Good questions.
Clear answers.

Planning details for Mechanical Crane Challenge. Bring any additional requirements into your conversation with Sieger.

Can the mechanism be simplified?

Yes. Facilitators can provide selected components or partially assembled mechanisms for shorter sessions.

Can it be competitive?

Yes. Teams can compete on load, reach, accuracy or combined performance.

Can Sieger customise the challenge for our objective?

Yes. Difficulty, narrative, scoring, team size, duration, venue layout and the workplace behaviour being explored can all be customised.

Can this be combined with other technology experiences?

Yes. The experience can be combined with electronics, drones, robotics, STEM, software, AI and mechanical challenges to create a larger technology challenge journey.

How many people can take part in Mechanical Crane Challenge?

The current planning format is 20–80 participants, organised into teams of 5–6. Confirm the final group size with Sieger so equipment, facilitator coverage and team rotations can be planned.

How long should we allow for the experience?

The indicative activity duration is 75 min. Briefing, practice, team presentations and debrief requirements can affect the final agenda; agree the complete session timing during planning.

What equipment is involved?

The proposed kit includes Structural materials, Pulleys / levers, Load objects, Target platform, and Engineering scorecard. Confirm the final equipment list, participant devices and venue requirements with the programme team.

Who is this experience suited to?

The existing format is designed with engineering teams, operations teams, leadership groups, project teams in mind. Share participants’ experience levels so the technical depth and facilitation can be matched to the group.

How are the results discussed?

The facilitator can use the agreed challenge rules, team decisions and observed results to guide the debrief. The discussion connects trade-off thinking, coordination, mechanical reasoning to situations your team encounters at work.

How do we plan a Mechanical Crane Challenge session?

Send your preferred date, location, participant count and learning objective through the enquiry form or call +91 98400 97567. Sieger can discuss the suitable format, equipment, venue needs and proposal.
