Energy, roles and teamwork through planning a move ahead in a team strategy game

We set up hoops in a 3 by 3 square. Form 2 even teams in lines, give each team 4 particular items. These items can be blocks VS balls, red items VS blue items, etc. The aim of this activity is to get three in a row, but to also stop your competing team from getting three in a row too!

What the team can practise

Agree the objective

Before planning a move ahead in a team strategy game, make sure the team understands what counts as progress in each round.

Divide useful roles

Give everyone a clear way to contribute rather than leaving the same people to act each time.

Communicate quickly

Use concise updates when the task or result changes and the group needs to choose again.

Include the whole group

Notice who has not yet taken part and create an opening for their contribution.

Adjust between rounds

Use a short reset to keep what worked, change what did not and begin the next attempt together.

Keep competition constructive

Celebrate effort, good decisions and encouragement as well as the final score.

Beyond the activity

What teams can take from the Tic Tac Toe session

As teams work through planning a move ahead in a team strategy game, short rounds or changing tasks reveal how people set priorities, share roles and respond when the result is uncertain. The format gives the facilitator specific moments to recognize, not just a score to celebrate.

Bring the debrief back to work by discussing how teams include different voices, reset after a setback and keep competition focused on learning and participation.

More about Tic Tac Toe Team Building Activity

The Tic Tac Toe team-building experience centres on planning a move ahead in a team strategy game. Sieger Group can tailor the facilitation, session flow and venue plan to your group size, event format and objectives.

The Tic Tac Toe experience

Tic-Tac -Toe Team Building activity involves looking ahead and trying to figure out what the person playing against you might do next. If you really wrap your brain around it, you'll discover that Tic-Tac-Toe isn't quite as simple as you think! If you always pay attention and look ahead, you'll never lose a game of Tic-Tac-Toe.

Participation in Tic Tac Toe

On whistle, teams will race one at a time and place an item in a hoop trying to get 3 in a row (TIC TAC TOE). If TIC TAC TOE is unsuccessful within those 4 turns, the next players running will remove ONE of their items to an empty hoop until TIC TAC TOE is successful.

Planning your Tic Tac Toe session

The team that wins the most rounds of tic-tac-toe may receive a special privilege, a bonus point, or small incentive. The game gets kind of physical at times. This game produces great fun and competition. A variation allows the team that “plays” second to get two moves.
