We set up hoops in a 3 by 3 square. Form 2 even teams in lines, give each team 4 particular items. These items can be blocks VS balls, red items VS blue items, etc. The aim of this activity is to get three in a row, but to also stop your competing team from getting three in a row too!

As teams work through planning a move ahead in a team strategy game, short rounds or changing tasks reveal how people set priorities, share roles and respond when the result is uncertain. The format gives the facilitator specific moments to recognize, not just a score to celebrate.
Bring the debrief back to work by discussing how teams include different voices, reset after a setback and keep competition focused on learning and participation.
How did the team communicate its next grid move?
Which choices balanced an immediate opportunity with the opponent’s options?
What helped participants avoid acting on different plans?
How did the group adjust when a preferred square was taken?
Reflect on how anticipating another team's response shaped a decision.
Consider how the group communicated a useful plan quickly.

On whistle, teams will race one at a time and place an item in a hoop trying to get 3 in a row (TIC TAC TOE). If TIC TAC TOE is unsuccessful within those 4 turns, the next players running will remove ONE of their items to an empty hoop until TIC TAC TOE is successful.
The team that wins the most rounds of tic-tac-toe may receive a special privilege, a bonus point, or small incentive. The game gets kind of physical at times. This game produces great fun and competition. A variation allows the team that “plays” second to get two moves.
