The experience

A team investigation shaped by finding objects or clues through a shared search

Scavenger hunts have always been a great way to get people interacting and collaborating. Scavenger Hunt is to bring team together around a common goal, stretch their creative and problem solving minds and have fun bring together all the items on their list.

The hunt will begin when teams are issued with their “Hunting Guide”. This will tell them where they need to be and when. It will also outline all the challenges they need to complete and being a points based program, teams will be rewarded based on their success.

What the team can practise

Share clues early

During finding objects or clues through a shared search, record what each person notices before the group settles on a theory.

Check assumptions

Compare each hunch with the evidence instead of letting the first confident answer dominate.

Connect the details

Keep track of how a new clue changes the team's understanding of the larger problem.

Choose a useful lead

Discuss which question or route is most likely to move Scavenger Hunt forward.

Manage the clock

Balance careful reasoning with the time available, and agree when to leave a dead end.

Bring every voice in

Invite observations from across the group; a small detail may change the whole interpretation.

The session

How the Scavenger Hunt team experience unfolds

The session centres on finding objects or clues through a shared search. The facilitator briefs the group, guides the activity and helps participants reflect on the choices they made together.

Read the search brief

Review the objects, clues or tasks the scavenger hunt asks teams to find.

Divide the search intelligently

Agree how discoveries will be recorded and shared before groups spread out.

Compare findings

Bring evidence together and check it against the task rather than relying on assumptions.

Present the completed search

Explain the discoveries and review how coordination affected the hunt.

Beyond the activity

What teams can take from the Scavenger Hunt session

Working through finding objects or clues through a shared search shows how a team handles incomplete information. The facilitator can help participants notice whose observations were heard, how the group tested assumptions and when it chose to change direction.

Relate the experience to project decisions: bring evidence together, invite a different interpretation and make the reason for the next choice clear to the people who must act on it.

Share partial informationTest a theory against evidenceMake the next decision together

Read the search brief

How did the team divide search tasks without duplicating effort?

Divide the search intelligently

Which discoveries needed to be shared immediately?

Compare findings

What helped colleagues interpret the checkpoint instructions?

Present the completed search

How did the group reconnect separate findings into a complete result?

Information from different places

Reflect on how the team combined observations made by separate participants.

Verification before completion

Consider how checking the brief prevented an apparent discovery from becoming a wrong answer.
